sister cities i am absolutely delighted that we are sister cities. and particularly since we are not blood relations, as it were, seems the pleasure gained from having children, one another and is really what gives a relationship weight. what i find particularly pleasing is that in this relationship that we have chosen to enter into, the distance between us is having a positive effect. if there is a sense of competition, then it is one that is driving business. what i also find particularly attractive is that those who have chosen one another demand proof of love, as it were. and there is more family networks stretching over it that makes the relationship a matter of course. instead, we reflect one another's common grounds, we assure one another and we strengthen each other by consistently renewing our relationship. providing proof of love is easily done in san francisco. i like courting and to be courted, and more importantly this is something that helps us make progress. we are here to work on behave of our cities to establish with you a network of

city college is a staple of education within the city. we don't only want to see city college saved. we want to see city college improved. we want to see city college addressing some of the historic issues of racial inequity, the achievement gap for students of color, especially african-american students, the amount of time that it takes students to graduate when they get into city college. so, we were really would like to see you take leadership in bringing the community together to build more support around saving city college, while most definitely including the fact we need to strive to improve the situations at city college that aren't working for students to make them successful. there's a lot of pressure to have a narrative that doesn't include equity and i want to most definitely make sure that as we continue to speak about this that we talk about equity. we put students at the center of the conversation and really make sure that it's guided by what's going to make sure students get the most out of their education at city college.

city of the texas panhandle. so, this idea that the little amarillo city was the wonder city of the texas panhandle, that is something that today sounds old-fashioned. but it was true back then. we also have this blueprint above by an architect who, i think, deserves his own study. his name is guy carr lender. what we have is an image of the united states with the city of amarillo that is larger than any other city and it is showing the networking of amarillo as a crossroads. it also says an ideal location for capital and industry. it is -- the kansas city -- the santa railroad, isnta fe an almost quicker line than even to dallas. houston is not even on this map. this map is what this whole show is about and how close those two cities were for a number of reasons, based on the cattle trade at the time. these two objects help tell that story. we are standing in front of another object. this is a reproduction, but this is a blueprint for a christmas card design by guy, who was an he was born in the kansas city area

as you're all away the city provides a vast array of services in a number of city departments through a broad network of organizations in the city or non-profit organizations. this slide is showing you that allocation by the city department that holds the contract. the total spend in 13-14 through non-profit service providers on services totaled approximately $675 million so we're talking about a very large base providing as you can see here services through a number of city departments. over 70% of the services though are really provided in our human and health service departments and public health makes up half of the non-profit contracts in the city and hsa and dcyf and the first 5 commission accounting for a 12% of different children and youth services. of course those contracts are supported by a vast array of different colors of money given the way the budget works but again the majority of spending is occurring in health and hsa and they're general fund funded departments most of the spending occurs out of the general fund itself at about 50% of the total or out of the hospital
